Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Sweden as part of his four-day Europe tour and expressed gratitude to the Swedish government and people through a message shared on social media. During a bilateral meeting, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson presented Prime Minister Modi with facsimiles of two handwritten poems by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The copies were prepared from original manuscripts recently discovered in Sweden’s National Archives.
Prime Minister Modi described the gesture as historic and stated that it reflected the deep cultural relationship shared between India and Sweden. Referring to Rabindranath Tagore, the Prime Minister stated that the poet’s words continue to transcend geographical boundaries and generations. He also noted that Tagore’s ideas concerning human dignity, knowledge, and global brotherhood remain relevant across the world.
During the exchange of gifts, Prime Minister Modi presented Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson with a collection of Rabindranath Tagore’s literary works. He also gifted a handcrafted bag prepared by artisans from Shantiniketan. The exchange took place during bilateral discussions between the two leaders during the Prime Minister’s official visit to Sweden.
